100% certain possibility of higher dimensional source of reality.

Human kind has been attracted to symmetry for ever. It speaks to us as a perfect manifestation of order and purpose. Symmetry also has profound mathematical implications that scientist are still exploring. Ancient symbolism and decoration often centers around symmetry, this can be found all around the world, across cultures. It is inherent to a symmetrical structure that it repeats itself over and over, this seems like the ultimate manifestation of order. This is called a periodic structure.

Medieval islamic structures have been found in Uzbekistan, Morocco and Iran, that are decorated in an extraordinary way. The shaped tiles that make up the decoration are organised in such a way that there is ordered structure, but as the plane expands, the patterns never repeat. Ever. This phenomenon was rediscovered by Hao Wang in 1961 and later improved upon and popularised by Sir Roger Penrose, a famous physician. It is called aperiodic tiling, or an aperiodic structure.

What is represented by this ancient art and by modern mathematicians and physicians, is a pattern that has an underlying structure that strives for order, but is bound to uniqueness as it expands. Remind you of anything? That’s right— everything.

Our reality seems to obey the exact same underlying structure as these aperiodic planes. Manifestations of our reality are ordered, but always unique— never exactly replicated. This is a concept that we are all familiar with deep inside. We strive for symmetry, the ultimate manifestation of order, but deep down we know we can never actually reach it. Paradoxically, the fact that we cannot reach symmetry makes it such a valuable goal to strive for. You would not want perfect symmetry, but you do want to strive for it. Just like you strive to explore the meaning of life, but you would not really want to find out— that would be boring.

Our reality does allow for manifestations of symmetry, but these manifestations are never periodic. Crystals get their appearance from manifestations of symmetry, which is most likely way we’re attracted to them. While there is symmetry within the crystal, no two crystalline structures are exactly the same— like in snowflakes. The manifestations of order within crystals have always been known to be periodic (by definition), until…

In 1984, a materials scientist named Dan Shechtman discovered a crystal structure that was ordered, but never repeated itself— the first evidence of an aperiodic structure in ‘real-life’! This structure was then called a ‘quasi-crystal’. Dan Shechtman was awarded the 2011 Nobel prize in Chemistry for this discovery and in 2018 the first naturally occurring quasi-crystal was found, which is called an icosahedrite. From what material was this quasi crystal structure extracted and discovered? From a piece of fucking meteorite.

The first naturally occurring structure that so closely resembles the underlying structure of our reality was created billions of years ago by a high energy event in outer space, and shipped to us on a (fucking) meteorite. Later on, more discoveries of quasi-crystals were made on nuclear bomb test sites. It seems that if the energy is high enough, the underlying structure of our reality reveals itself.

There are now theories involving higher dimensions, of which the math goes way way waaaaay over my head. Apparently, the 2-dimensional shadow of a 5-dimensional hypercube overlaps perfectly with the atomic structure of an icosahedrite. This would imply that aperiodic structures, are actually 2D representations of higher dimensional structures. Perhaps higher dimensional structures that give order to or even create our reality.

It has been further theorised that ancient symbolism found all around the world, are actually 2d representations of higher dimensional structures. But that’s for another article.

For now, we can be 100% certain that there may be a possibility that the aperiodic structure found in ancient art and in quasi-crystals is a link to the higher dimensional entity that creates our reality. Hard facts.
